Nerdy Weekly Baby Size: Week 38

This week for the Nerdy Weekly Baby series!

Welcome, nerds and geeks, to the world of pregnancy! By now, you’re probably familiar with the fact that pregnancy lasts for around 40 weeks, or nine months. And at 38 weeks, you’re getting very close to the finish line.

So what is the gestational size of a baby at 38 weeks? Well, on average, a baby at 38 weeks is about 19-21 inches long and weighs around 6-7 pounds, about the size of Liz! Of course, every baby is different, and some may be larger or smaller than this. But in general, your baby is now fully developed and just needs a little more time to grow and put on some weight before they’re ready to make their grand entrance into the world.

How You’re Feeling at 27 Weeks Pregnant

At this point in your pregnancy, you may be feeling a mix of emotions – excitement, anticipation, and maybe a little bit of anxiety or impatience. After all, you’ve been carrying your little one for almost nine months now, and you’re probably more than ready to meet them face to face.

Physically, you may be feeling quite uncomfortable at 38 weeks pregnant. Your baby is now taking up a lot of space inside your uterus, which can make it difficult to breathe, eat, sleep, or even move around. You may be experiencing more Braxton Hicks contractions, which are a normal part of the third trimester but can be uncomfortable or even painful at times.

You might also be experiencing some other common pregnancy symptoms, such as:

  • Fatigue: Growing a human is hard work, and it’s not unusual to feel more tired than usual at this stage.
  • Back pain: As your baby grows, your center of gravity shifts, which can put more strain on your back muscles.
  • Swelling: Your feet, ankles, and hands may be swelling up as your body retains more fluid.
  • Frequent urination: Your baby’s head is probably engaged in your pelvis by now, which can put pressure on your bladder and make you feel like you need to pee all the time.

Despite all these discomforts, try to stay positive and focus on the fact that you’re almost there. In just a few short weeks (or maybe even days!), you’ll be holding your little bundle of joy in your arms and all the discomforts of pregnancy will be a distant memory.

In the meantime, take care of yourself and your baby. Rest as much as you can, eat well, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. And if you’re feeling worried or overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for support and guidance.

Congratulations, nerd moms-to-be! You’re almost at the finish line.
