Nerdy Weekly Baby Size: Week 21

This week for the Nerdy Weekly Baby series!

Congratulations! You are now 21 weeks pregnant and your baby is the size of a baby Adipose from Doctor Who. At this point, your little one is measuring around 10.5 inches from crown to rump and weighs in at about 12.7 ounces. That’s about as big as heavy as a can of soda!

Baby Adipose

As your baby grows and becomes more active, you may be feeling a variety of sensations. Some women describe feeling flutters or gentle movements, while others may feel more pronounced kicks and punches. Your baby’s movements will become more regular as they continue to develop.

During this time, your uterus is expanding rapidly to accommodate your growing baby. As a result, you may be experiencing some discomfort or pain in your lower abdomen. This is completely normal and is a sign that your body is doing exactly what it needs to do to support your baby’s growth.

You may also be experiencing some round ligament pain, which is a sharp pain or discomfort in your lower belly or groin area. This is caused by the stretching and pulling of the ligaments that support your uterus. While it can be uncomfortable, it is not harmful to you or your baby.

At 21 weeks, you may also start to notice some changes in your skin. Some women experience darkening or discoloration of their skin, particularly around their nipples, belly button, and groin area. This is due to hormonal changes and is completely normal. If you’re concerned, talk to your doctor or midwife.

In addition to physical changes, you may also be experiencing some emotional changes. Pregnancy can be an emotional rollercoaster, and it’s completely normal to feel anxious, overwhelmed, or moody. It’s important to take care of yourself during this time and to talk to your doctor or midwife if you’re struggling.

As always, it’s important to prioritize your health and the health of your growing baby during this exciting time. Make sure you’re eating a balanced and nutritious diet, getting plenty of rest, and staying active. And don’t forget to schedule regular prenatal appointments with your healthcare provider.

So, there you have it – everything you need to know about the gestational size of your baby at 21 weeks and what you may be feeling during this time. Enjoy this special time in your pregnancy journey and remember to take care of yourself and your growing baby.
