Galaxy Quest is such a fantastic movie! Being a nerd, I appreciated all the parody references SPOILERS!!!:

rolling across the planet in a defensive posture
that the Omega-13 device only turns off at the final second
that Sigourney Weaver’s only job on the ship was to repeat the computer
that Guy is expendable

I’m not sure if anyone else has caught this while watching the movie, but the movie was originally rated R and you can definitely tell by one scene where the dub over words in favor of something more family friendly 🙂 It makes me laugh every time I see that scene.

If Galaxy Quest is really your kind of geeky movie, you’ll really appreciate the book “Red Shirts“. It too is a parody of Star Trek

where seemingly intelligent red shirt crew members make incredibly illogical mistakes while traveling on-planet with their officers. Lots of fun references and fun characters to enjoy cheering for!
