Nerdy Weekly Baby Size: Week 25

This week for theĀ Nerdy Weekly Baby series!

Congratulations! You’re 25 weeks pregnant, and your baby is growing bigger and stronger every day. At this stage, your baby is about the size of a The Original Series Phaser, measuring around 13.6 inches (34.5 cm) long and weighing in at approximately 1.5 pounds (680 grams). This might not seem like a lot, but your little one is steadily putting on weight as they continue to develop.

Nerdy Development:

By this point in your pregnancy, your baby’s organs have matured to the point where they could potentially survive outside of the womb with medical assistance. Of course, it’s still better for them to stay put for a while longer, but it’s reassuring to know that they’re getting closer to being ready for the world.

One exciting development at this stage is that your baby’s sense of touch is starting to develop. They can now feel and respond to pressure and touch, and you might even be able to feel them reacting to outside stimuli. For example, if you press gently on your belly, you might feel your baby shift position in response.

How You Might be Feeling:

While your baby is busy growing and developing, you might be experiencing some changes of your own. By 25 weeks, you’re well into your second trimester, and many women find that this is a time of increased energy and fewer pregnancy-related symptoms. However, there are still some common issues that you might be dealing with:

  • Heartburn: As your baby grows, they can put pressure on your stomach and cause stomach acid to leak back up into your esophagus, leading to that familiar burning sensation.
  • Braxton Hicks contractions: These are practice contractions that can occur throughout pregnancy, but they might become more noticeable around this time.
  • Back pain: As your center of gravity shifts and your uterus expands, you might experience back pain or discomfort.
  • Swelling: Your body is retaining more fluid than usual, which can cause swelling in your feet, ankles, and hands.

Despite these potential issues, many women find that the second trimester is a welcome break from some of the more uncomfortable symptoms of early pregnancy. You might be feeling more comfortable in your changing body, and you might even be starting to think about preparing for your baby’s arrival. Now is a great time to start planning your nursery, reading up on labor and delivery, and enjoying the excitement of pregnancy.

Being 25 weeks pregnant is an exciting time for both you and your baby. Your little one is growing and developing at a rapid pace, and you’re likely feeling more comfortable and energetic than you were earlier in your pregnancy. Of course, every pregnancy is different, so if you’re experiencing any unusual symptoms or discomfort, be sure to talk to your healthcare provider. With just a few more months to go until your due date, it’s time to start getting excited for the arrival of your little one!
