Insider Tips for Frequent Fear Pass Holders. Maximize your night with strategic house visits and late-night scares.
If you’re a fan of Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) and you hold a Frequent Fear Pass (they sold out so hope you got yours!), we’ve got a game-changing tip for you. This strategy is perfect if you love to hop in and out of the haunted houses and want to make the most of your pass.
Late-Night Advantage
The key to this tip is heading into HHN around 10:30 PM to 11 PM. As the night goes on, the wait times for many houses start to drop significantly. By midnight, you’ll find that numerous houses have mere 5, 10, or 15-minute waits as folks start to head home. The magic happens between midnight and the 2 AM closing time.
Skip the Express Pass
If you’ve been shelling out for the Frequent Fear Pass with Express, this strategy might make you reconsider. By timing your visit right, you can enjoy nearly the same benefits without the extra cost. Some HHN veterans swear by it.
Optimized House Order
To make the most of this strategy, consider your house order carefully. For example, don’t start with “The Last of Us” unless you’ve first hit “Oddfellow’s” and “Darkest Deal.” This way, when you exit “The Last of Us,” you’ll find yourself right next to “Monsters Unleashed” by ET. This simple tweak can save you a good 10 minutes of walking.
Arrival Time Matters
Depending on the day you go, your arrival time can make a significant difference. For example, arriving at 11:45 PM on a Friday allowed some HHN-goers to conquer four houses and even sneak in a drink from Finnegan’s. On a more leisurely Sunday visit, starting at 9:30 AM, they managed to experience five houses, two rides, indulged in some snacks, and left by 1:30 PM.
Stay ‘n Scream Break
If you’re a fan of “Stay ‘n Scream” (getting into the park early), consider utilizing it for just one or two houses. Then, leave the park to grab some food, relax at your hotel, and return around 11 PM. This way, you can recharge and enjoy a more relaxed evening at HHN.
These tips are tried and true for those who want to make the most of their Frequent Fear Pass without the extra cost of Express access. Remember, the key is in timing, optimizing your house order, and being flexible with your visit. Happy haunting! 👻🎃

Useful Tips for Halloween Horror Nights 2023
- Arrive Early: Beat the crowds and avoid traffic by arriving at least an hour before the event starts. September is less busy than October, so consider visiting then for a smoother experience.
- Stay the Day: If you have event admission and are a Passholder, you can stay in the park during the switch to Halloween Horror Nights. Not a passholder? You can purchase a Scream Early Ticket. Wait in the Stay & Scream area and get a head start on the scares when the event begins.
- Stay Close to the Horror: Book accommodations at a Universal Orlando Hotel to stay near the action. Hotel guests enjoy special access to a dedicated entry gate until 8 pm on event nights and exclusive access to HHN hotel events.
- Start in the Back: Head to the back of the park first to explore haunted houses with shorter lines before they get busy. Save the scare zones for later.
- Enhance the Horror: Add even more thrills to your experience with event add-ons. Consider the Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass to skip regular lines at haunted houses and attractions. Join the Behind-The-Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour for a lights-on look at haunted houses. Alternatively, opt for the R.I.P. Tour to get a guided V.I.P. walking tour with Priority V.I.P. entry to haunted houses.
- Follow the Guidelines: No costumes or costume masks are allowed, so leave those at home. Be respectful to performers, and refrain from using flash photography, video recording, or bringing food and drinks into haunted houses. Line jumping, foul language, and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
- Check Warning Signs: Pay attention to the warning signs at the entrance of each attraction to ensure you visit only those suitable for your abilities.
- Sealed Water Bottle: You can bring one sealed bottle of water through security and into the event.
- Prohibited Items: Certain items, such as wallet chains, flashlights, laser pointers, fish hooks, and clothing with sharp metal spikes, are not allowed inside the event.
