Feel the Power of the Movies with ASO Movies in Concert

Movies in Concert at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is a popular event where a live orchestra performs the musical score of a movie while the film is being shown on a large screen. This creates a unique and immersive experience for the audience, as they get to hear the music in a live setting while watching the movie.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has hosted a number of movies in concert events, featuring popular films such as “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter,” and “Jurassic Park”. These events are typically held at the Symphony Hall, which is located in the Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown Atlanta.

The Movies in Concert Series also has holiday specific movies each year, such as “Nightmare before Christmas” for Halloween, and “Home Alone” for Christmas.

The performances are often conducted by renowned conductors and feature top-notch musicians, ensuring that the music is performed to the highest standards. In addition to the movie screenings, some events also include pre-concert talks or other special features.

What to Wear

What you wear to a movies in concert event at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will largely depend on your personal preferences and the dress code of the event.

Generally speaking, these events are typically more formal than a regular trip to the cinema. Many attendees choose to dress up for the occasion, with men often wearing suits or dress pants and a shirt, and women wearing dresses or dressy separates. But feel free to go more casual if that is your preference.

For these movies, the Atlanta Symphony encourages themed attire!

That being said, I have decided that I will always go all out and wear costumes to these events!

Costumes

When considering costumes for Movies in Concert, it is fun to pick a costume that is from the movie you are about to view. Please note that these are family events, so keep that in mind when choosing a costume. For example, I created an evening gown inspired by the Slave Leia costume, but appropriate for a symphony event. Remember, lightsabers, blasters, staffs, brooms, and other prop weapons are NOT permitted at the venue.

Photo Opportunities

The event often includes special features, such as costumed characters, pre-concert talks, or other activities. During Star Wars events, typically members for the 501st or Rebel Legion arrive early for photo opportunities.

My favorite opportunity was taking a picture with a replica of the Jurassic Park Jeep.

If you would like to take a picture of someone’s cosplay, it’s important to do so respectfully and with their permission. Ask for permission, take the photo, then politely thank them. They are there to enjoy the event as well, so be considerate of their time.

I am happy to take photos with other Symphony attendees, so don’t be afraid to ask. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no!

Food and Beverage

There are multiple bars and concession stands located throughout the venue, offering a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks, and bottled water. Additionally, light snacks such as popcorn, candy, and chips are typically available for purchase.

Outside food and beverages are generally not allowed inside Symphony Hall, with the exception of water bottles.

Enjoy your Night

Attending a movie in concert at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is a great way to experience some of the best movies of all time in a new and exciting way. Whether you’re a fan of classic films or modern blockbusters, there’s sure to be an event that will appeal to your interests.
