Villain-Con Minion Blast Ride Restrictions
Child swap options are available, and there’s no height requirement, but guests under 48 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion who is 14 or older.
To ensure safety, younger riders must stand on their own, no infant-in-arms or strollers.
Service dogs are welcome, and standard wheelchairs are allowed, with transfer wheelchairs provided for those in ECVs.
This ride safety warnings say to avoid if you are prone to motion sickness, but my mom who typically is, did not have any issues. The walkway is slower than the moving walkways from the parking lot to CityWalk.
The ride is approximately 5-minutes long, so get those arms ready to hold the gun!
Universal Express Passes for Universal Studios are accepted at this ride.
The Queue and Convention Floor
Get ready to step into the Despicable Me universe like never before with Villain-Con: Minion Blast ride at Universal Studios.
As you approach the outdoor queue, you’ll be greeted by eye-catching banners advertising the Villain-Con expo, where supervillains from far and wide converge.
While the outdoor queue offers entertaining videos, the lack of shade may be a concern on hot days with full switchbacks. However, your patience will be rewarded as you enter the indoor portion, which truly captures the essence of a convention floor.
Immerse yourself in exhibits showcasing villainous technology, evil fashion accessories, and super-powered vehicles, setting the stage for the excitement to come.
Keep an eye out for some V6 loot located around the conference floor.
Getting your Blaster and Syncing to the App
Once you reach the loading platform, you’ll encounter a moving wall of E-Liminator X blasters on a conveyor belt. Each rider will be equipped with a wireless blaster to wreak havoc during the adventure.
There are both large blasters for the general public and mini-blasters for young guests (upon request only, and mini blasters do not sync with the App). My youngest (7) had not problem with holding up the standard blaster the entire time.
Before stepping onto the walkway, step to the side with your party to sync with the Universal Orlando App. The App can register up to 5 members on it for syncing.
You will hold your phone up to the white area on the top rear of the blaster.
Do note: you may need to remove your phone case to sync properly. My phone case has a magnet in it, and my phone synced without any problem after removing the case.
After you sync one blaster, you can quickly toggle in the App to sync the next blaster in your party.
Moving-Walkway Blaster Adventure
One your party is all synced, follow the Team Member’s instructions to your designated dot on the moving walkway. This walkway will travel through multiple large screens that surround you, becoming your canvas for destruction.
As you enter the first room, the screen on the blaster will display your unique villain name and a colored icon acting as your marker on the game screen. This icon helps you track your blaster as you engage in the mayhem. A target icon assigned to your blaster helps you aim, but, as with MIB: Alien Attack, finding it can be tricky at times.
The attraction consists of various rooms, each offering a different set of virtual props to destroy. As the walkway turns through different rooms, you’ll unleash chaos upon everything in sight, creating an unforgettable adventure for all ages in Universal Studios
Keep an eye out for the “Inside Loot” as it shows up on the screens!
Tips for scoring big on Villain-Con Minion Blast
As the ride is now open, we will learn more tips as more guests try the Villain-Con ride in Universal Studios. Here is what we know now:
- Keep pulling the trigger, holding it down does not do continuous shooting
- Syncing with the App and customizing your blaster improves your score
- As soon as you enter the first room, figure out which icon is your blaster for better accuracy throughout game
- Remember, you have limited ammo with the trigger on the front, so use it wisely. The trigger in the back is unlimited.
- The blasts take a few moments to reach its target, simulating real-world physics. So aim for where an item will be, especially conveyor belt items.
- Shooting at paintings/pictures boosts your score. Wait for them to respawn and shoot again.
- Fire customizations and fire perks seem to really improve your score.
- There’s a strategic balance between gathering special ammo and wreaking havoc – using the special ammo allows quicker destruction. Intentional actions will drive the highest scores.
- Collecting loot can boost your score. Review the “Inside loot” in the App prior to the game and keep an eye out.
- Shooting Bosses may cause them to drop their launchers. Shoot the launcher box to collect their weapons.
Connected Gameplay
The excitement doesn’t stop there. Universal Studios Florida has introduced a cutting-edge feature that takes your Villain-Con ride experience to the next level – Connected Gameplay.
By downloading The Universal Orlando Resort app, you can boost your scores and level up your adventure not only at Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast ride but also throughout Minion Land on Illumination Avenue in Universal Studios.
For first-timers, I highly suggest taking a look at the App ahead of time and looking through all the different blaster options, missions, and collectibles.
I spent about 15 minutes initially setting up and customizing our profiles. If you still are having issues, I highly suggest asking a Team Member at Universal Studios for App setup assistance.
Dive deep into the world of villainy as you create you and your family’s custom profiles and blasters, enabling you to get higher scores, compete with friends, complete missions, and collect virtual trophies. Prepare to become the ultimate supervillain as you unlock perks and customize your blaster in “The Lab” – which allows for much higher scores!
Change your missions to try new fun-filled challenges and unlock various trophies, each with its own unique set of requirements.

Collecting Outside Loot
As you enter the Villain-Con convention room, keep an eye out for “loot” – V6 medallions hidden in the queue and scattered throughout Minion Land in Universal Studios. The Universal Orlando App makes it a game of discovery as you use your phone to tap and collect these elusive medallions.
Click on the items in the App to get clues as to the locations of the loot throughout Universal Studios.
Some of the clues in the App are very vague. For example, the Pop-A-Nana medallion is not near what I consider the entrance to Minion Cafe in Universal Studios, but along the patio.
Evil Stuff Merchandise Store in Universal Studios
Overflowing with a captivating array of merchandise, this brand-new retail store in Universal Studios showcases an eclectic selection of Villain-Con and Minions memorabilia. From villain-themed t-shirts to delightful Con-inspired memorabilia, the shop is a treasure trove for fans.
Don’t forget to make your own Villain-Con badge in the machine near the door!
My kids bought several items: a Vicious 6 button, a Villain-Con Hat, and a cute minion purse with Villain-Con pattern inside.
Technical Rehearsals and Beyond for Villain-Con
