I’ve decorated with book page wallpaper twice, let me show you how to do it too!

Using Book Pages as Wallpaper: A Magical Transformation

When I was brainstorming nursery ideas for my little one, I wanted a design that would be gender-neutral, adaptable as my child grows, and reflect our family’s love for books. That’s when I stumbled upon the idea of using pages of a book as wallpaper. It instantly sparked my imagination and seemed like the perfect way to create a whimsical and personalized space.

The Process: DIY Book Page Wallpaper

To bring my vision to life, I gathered an assortment of books and began the process of turning their pages into a stunning book page wallpaper. You could easily go to Goodwill or garage sales to find old books to pull pages from, but I decided not to damage any books at all.

First, I scanned and printed the pages in black on bright white paper to maintain a clean and timeless look. This way I could use pages from favorite books from my collection without damaging them, or incorporate favorite books from the library to incorporate into the wall and make it very personal. I included pages from Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Curious George, Goodnight Moon, and many more of my favorite books. I made sure that the name of each family member was included as well.

The decision to copy pages of books also allowed for easy spacing and arrangement of the images on the wall. When I did the same in our new house for my second daughter, I took the printed pages and stained them in different tea dilutions to give the impression of book pages that were both old and new in the wallpaper.

Starting the Wallpaper

We began by installing this this paintable wallpaper and this wallpaper paste to make removal in the future easier.

With a collection of 327 pages from books, I meticulously cut them to the desired size and organized them into different categories – pages with just words, pages with images, full-page words, and less-than-full-page words. This sorting process ensured a balanced and visually appealing mix as we began the installation of the wallpaper.

Working from the middle and going in different directions, my mom and I rolled wallpaper paste directly onto the wall and carefully placed each page. We used a dough scraper to ensure even application and smooth out any imperfections for each book page. Though the process required patience and attention to detail, the end result was truly magical.

The Delightful Outcome: A Book Page Wonderland

After nearly eight hours of dedication and love, the book page wallpaper was finally complete. The mixture of words and images created a captivating visual display that exceeded my expectations. The room radiated an inviting atmosphere, filled with the stories and characters that have enchanted generations.

Clean-up was a breeze, and soon we had everything back in place, admiring the beauty of our creation. My daughter’s book nursery was almost complete, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. This project was not only a labor of love but also an opportunity to create a space where my child can grow, learn, and be inspired by the magic of books. My daughters will point to books on the wall while we read aloud to them at night, and it’s fun to see them notice different pages from books!
