Research and Plan Ahead
Before you even set foot in the parks, take some time to research the attractions, shows, and dining options. Universal Orlando Resort comprises two main theme parks: Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay water park. Familiarize yourself with the park maps, attractions’ locations, and their respective opening and closing times. Seriously consider staying in one of the on-site hotels for additional benefits.
Purchase Tickets in Advance
We almost always recommend park-to-park tickets, so to save time and avoid long lines at the ticket booths, purchase your tickets online in advance. Universal Orlando Resort offers various ticket options, including single-day and multi-day passes, park-to-park tickets, and Express Passes for expedited access to select attractions.
Arrive Early
If you aren’t staying on property, you can still enter the parking garage early and get in line for the parks. If you’re staying at one of Universal’s on-site hotels, take advantage of the Early Park Admission benefit. It grants you early access to certain attractions and lands, allowing you to experience popular rides with minimal wait times.
Use the Official Universal Orlando Resort App
We live on the Universal Orlando App while at the parks to optimize our time. The Universal Orlando Resort App is your ultimate companion during your visit. It provides real-time wait times, showtimes, mobile food ordering, interactive park maps, mobile pay, and more.
Dress Comfortably and Wear Sunscreen
Orlando’s weather can be hot and humid, especially during the summer months. Dress in light, breathable clothing and don’t forget to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the Florida sun. And don’t neglect your feet! You need great shoes for all the walking!
Bring a small bag
We bring a small bag that fits in the free lockers with a water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, ponchos, and more. Also, pockets in your clothing are a must for holding your wallet for when you stow your bag in a locker.
Stay Hydrated
With all the excitement and walking around the parks, it’s essential to stay hydrated. Bring refillable water bottles and use the Coca-cola Freestyle machines for free chilled water to stay refreshed throughout the day.
Use Free Lockers for Convenience
If you’re carrying small bags or personal belongings, utilize the free lockers available at the rides to keep your items safe and your hands free for all the attractions.
Park Hop
Plan your ride strategy to minimize wait times. Start with popular attractions early in the day or use the Universal Express Pass for expedited access to select rides. Park hop as needed to get to the rides with shorter lines.
Use mobile food orders or make dining reservations through the App
Universal Orlando Resort offers a variety of dining options, from quick-service restaurants to upscale dining experiences. Order ahead with the App to avoid lines or make reservations in advance for popular restaurants to secure your spot.
Use Shows to take Breaks
Universal Orlando Resort can be tiring, especially for young children. Take breaks throughout the day by enjoying the fantastic shows that the parks offer. My favorite for relaxing are the Bourne Stuntacular and the Tales of Beedle the Bard, both in Universal Studios.
Take Advantage of Single Rider Lines
If you don’t mind riding separately from your group, single rider lines can significantly reduce wait times for popular attractions. It’s an excellent option for thrill-seekers looking for quick access to top rides. But remember, you will be separated from your party!
Use Child Swap for Families
For families with small children who don’t meet the height requirements for certain rides, take advantage of the Child Swap program. This allows one adult to wait with the child while the rest of the group rides, and then they can switch without waiting in line again.
Send Merchandise to the front of the park or your room
Bringing home a piece of the magic doesn’t mean you have to lug your souvenirs around all day. Take advantage of the Merchandise Pickup by sending your merchandise to CityWalk and retrieving it when you leave for the day. From wands and robes to character merchandise, there’s something for everyone.
Attend Character Meet-and-Greets
Keep an eye out for character meet-and-greets throughout the parks. Meeting your favorite characters can be a delightful experience, especially for younger visitors.
Plan to Stay for the Nighttime Shows
Universal Orlando comes alive at night with spectacular nighttime shows. Catch “Universal’s Cinematic Celebration” in Universal Studios and “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” in Islands of Adventure for breathtaking displays of light, music, and water.
With these top 15 tips and tricks, you’re well-equipped to make the most of your first visit to Universal Orlando Resort. Plan ahead, stay hydrated, take advantage of the app, and enjoy all the thrilling rides, immersive lands, and unforgettable experiences this world-class resort has to offer.
