Have you taken a picture with the dragon in Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Orlando?
It is one of the most exciting experiences and something I never miss. The amount of pictures I have with the dragon is staggering.
How often does the dragon at Gringotts breathe fire?
Although the wizards in Diagon Alley say it is random, I’ve had great luck being near the dragon every 10 minutes on the 10s. The dragon gives off a rumble about 10 seconds before spewing fire, so you have time to prepare if you want pictures.
And it is a lot of fire!! I still love the shocked looks on faces of guests not expecting the amount of fire, the sound, and the surprise. Makes me happy every time.
But the dragon doesn’t always spew fire. If the weather is not cooperating, it takes a break.
And where is the best place to take pictures with the dragon over Gringotts?
The answer is everywhere. There are so many different good angles.
Here are my favorite options:
The stairs above Gringotts Wizard Bank
We sit on these stairs to eat the ice cream from Florean Fortescue’s, so we inevitably spend enough time to see the dragon spout fire. The girls always want ice cream, Olivia loves the Chocolate Raspberry, Juliet loves Vanilla, and I adore the Salted Caramel Blondie.
Left next to Fountain of Fair Fortune
We spend quite a bit of time visiting the Fountain of Fair Fortune which has butterbeer and special wizard beers, so I’m usually enjoying a Wizard’s Brew while letting the girls do magic until I hear the rumble and take a photo.
Under the Dragon
If you can handle the heat, a picture with the contrast of a blue sky and the orange flames is always gorgeous! Extra points if you can get your whole family in.
Looking down Diagon Alley
While this is the shot I typically see people most doing, I don’t feel like you get the full impression of how much of a fireball the dragon spits at this angle. Great shot of the Diagon Alley, but not of the fire.
Right next to Wiseacre’s
This shot is especially great during Christmas where there is a wreath that frames the dragon so nicely.
