For thrill-seekers and adventure enthusiasts, Universal Orlando’s Great Movie Escape offers an exhilarating experience that transcends conventional escape rooms. Among its captivating offerings, the “Jurassic World: Escape” room stands out as a pulse-pounding adventure that transports participants into the heart of the iconic film franchise.
As you know, I love Jurassic Park, so was thrilled to include the Escape Room in our trip. We’ve tried it so you know what to expect, and will show you crucial details to ensure your escapade is an unforgettable one.
Timings and Cost
“Jurassic World: Escape” at Universal Orlando’s Great Movie Escape operates during the venue’s regular hours of operation, 10:30 am to 12am each day. Adventurers can book their slots in advance, and it’s advisable to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. The experience typically takes between 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
The cost per person starts at $49.99 before 6pm, and $59.99 after 6pm. Complimentary Self parking is included for the parking garage for the date of your ticket.
Lockers are available for rental at $5, but we chose to carry our bags and water bottles.
Group Size
The attraction can accommodate up to 6 participants per room, or up to 8 guests if selecting the private option. This provides an ideal opportunity for group outings, family adventures, or even corporate team-building activities. Guests who purchase Non-Private Experience ticket may be paired with another party, pending group size, for a maximum of 6 guests per group.
Age Suitability
The “Jurassic World: Escape” adventure is designed to cater to a wide range of participants, but it’s worth noting that the experience is best suited for individuals who are comfortable with suspenseful situations and are excited about solving puzzles under thrilling circumstances. My 7-year-old daughter was really uncomfortable with all the noises and lights going off throughout the entire time, and swears she will never try it again. My 10-year-old daughter was a bit jumpy at first but quickly and excitedly joined in on the puzzles. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Arrival and Prep
We arrived 15 minutes early, as suggested and quickly checked-in. The Great Movie Escape is located in CityWalk, where the Groove used to be located. The inside is covered in Jurassic World and Back to the Future memorabilia, with the huge screen including trivia while you wait for your turn.
While you wait, a bar located on the first floor has specialty alcoholic drinks and mocktails. You are able to bring your food and drink into the experience, but we finished ours prior to entering, otherwise we would have to bring them along to every room. The specialty drinks looked fun, but it was an extremely hot day, so we just had waters and beer.
After everyone has arrived, the guests for both experiences are brought into an area to watch a safety video before entering. For these escape rooms, if you exit, you cannot return. So remember to go to the bathroom beforehand (the TMs will remind you!)
The Jurassic World: Escape Adventure Unfolds
After completing the safety video, we went upstairs to wait on our entry into the Jurassic World Escape room. We took pictures beforehand with the huge Escape Room backdrop (glad we did because my 7/yo looked pitiful afterward).
We were once again asked if we needed to use the restroom, told to cross our arms abover our head if we needed to exit, then let into the first room.
As we stepped into the experience, we were immediately transported to the heart of Isla Nublar, where dinosaur-related chaos was about to erupt. The immersive set design, complete with sounds, lights, and fog effects, created an amazingly well themed atmosphere. The first challenge took a bit for us to figure out how to start, setting the tone for the puzzles that awaited us. While my youngest daughter struggled with the loud noises and alarms, my oldest quickly embraced the challenge and began collaborating with us to solve the intricate puzzles.
Expect the Unexpected in Jurassic World
“Jurassic World: Escape” is not just an escape room; it’s an escape adventure that challenges your wits, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Throughout the experience, we were guided by a filmed actress who appeared on screens and provided helpful hints. The puzzles ranged from physical to digital and required a blend of logic, creativity, and strategic thinking. The diverse challenges ensured that most everyone in our group remained engaged, with each contributing their unique perspective.
A Different Kind of Escape
One distinctive aspect of “Jurassic World: Escape” is that participants cannot fail. If you find yourself stuck on a puzzle for too long, the adventure continues, ensuring that every group reaches the thrilling conclusion. While this might deviate from traditional escape room norms, it allows adventurers to fully immerse themselves in the story and enjoy the experience without the pressure of time constraints. My oldest really loved this style of escape room because it required so much cooperation and coordination. She says in other escape rooms we’ve tried at home, my husband and I and the adults can dominate the puzzles and take over too much from the kids.
Scorecards
Upon completing the adventure, your team is told how many challenges you completed, up to 20 for the Jurassic World: Escape. We were clever enough to finish 12 of the puzzles, making us “Geneticists” !! We were told upon entering that the average is 8! The stages, combined with the replayability of the puzzles, encourages participants to return and improve their scores.
