I had a horribly late night yesterday with a softball game starting at 9:30. As a result, I didn’t feel up to any serious color mixing this morning. I decided to focus on shape instead.
If you can’t tell based on my previous posts, I love structure in my clothing. Which brings me to the peplum. It is, in my opinion, one of the most universally flattering trends out this season. If you already have an hourglass figure, it calls attention to it. If you don’t have an hourglass figure, it creates the illusion of one. All good things in my book.
I have owned this black peplum blouse for a couple years now, but up until today, have only worn it with skinny jeans.
In the inspiration photo, I just loved how the peplum looked with a skirt (although it is a little too dressy). I am really glad I tried it, because I think this is another winner. The shirt has some black and gold beading at the waist, so I kept the jewelry simple. Just a gold and topaz necklace from the 70s that belonged to my grandmother.
I think I am going to keep my eye out for an affordable colored pencil skirt. Going through my closet getting dressed this morning, I realized I own no less than 3 black pencil skirts (which is a little overkill) in addition to 4 or 5 other black skirts of the non-pencil variety but no colored skirts appropriate for work. I really like how the peplum top and yellow skirt look together in my other inspiration photo.
Any other ideas on what to pair this top with or ways to dress it down a bit for work?

I’m going to Asheville for the next few days and will try to post while I’m there. Everyone is looking awesome!
End of day note on today’s attire: In hindsight, this outfit toed the like of work sexy a little to closely than was appropriate for working for a home improvement retailer. Next time I wear this top with a skirt it will be a less tight pencil skirt.
I really like the outfit, definitely think that any colored pencil skirt will do great!
You hussie. You inspire me.
I know you're not a huge Target fan, but they have pencil skirts for $22 in a variety of colors — I have four, myself! Worth looking into.
I'll check it out! Do they have the skirt in store, or online only?
Both — more colors online. They have an orange right now that I think you'd like!
