So I think we got the rain in DC today that the Atlanta girls battled on Monday. I walk/take the bus to work and it was raining so hard today that I actually wore my winter boots to the office. Good thing I did because my cute shoes would have been ruined in the flooding. The boots are not very fashionable with this outfit (note – need to buy plain rain boots when the shopping hiatus ends) so I didn’t bother with a photo when I first came in looking like a drowned rat.
- Pinspiration from emilymiller on Polyvore
- Pearl lavelier – Pearl Market in Beijing
- Pearl studs – street market in Kona, Hawaii
- Grey sweater with crystal buttons – Old Navy
- White tank – Talbots
- Pink skirt – Isaac Mizrahi for Target
- Silver shoes – Calvin Klein (I got these to wear in Rebecca’s wedding in 2010!)
- Scarf – some kiosk at the mall
- Trench – Michael Kors at Macy’s
I liked the idea of this outfit in my head, but was disappointed in my execution. I think the sweater is too dark grey and makes the whole outfit heavy looking instead of airy as in the inspiration. Also, the flowy skirt and the unstructured sweater don’t look chic. I liked how the scarf and trench lightened up the coloring so I might try this look again with my (lighter) grey wool blazer once the weather is a little cooler. Any other ideas?
I think you are right on about the need for a structured piece. Maybe a pretty blousy pink top with a grey pencil skirt or trousers? Or tuck in the top and use a belt on top of the sweater.
