In the spirit of today’s Think Pink challenge, I decided to go with a classic; Marilyn Monroe’s pink gown from ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’. While I definitely disagree with the movie title, I think the combo of a pink dress with bold metallic accessories is definitely a do.
I actually don’t own very much pink. I work with people who, for the most part, are at least 10 years older than me. I always feel like pink makes me looks younger, and it’s not exactly a power color in a corporate environment. This pink, structured sheath dress was about it in terms of the selection in my closet. You can’t tell in the picture, but there is heavy seaming at the waist, bust, and hips which helps the dress seem less juvenile despite the Barbie pink color.
This look was really all about the accessories. I went with a wide silver cuff bracelet and a bold necklace. I forgot my opera gloves at home, although I am rocking a fancy wrist brace right now for a sprained wrist. I wore my red pumps in the picture which I actually loved (red and pink, who knew?), but switched to my black pumps for work because the red ones really need to be re-heeled.
What do you think? Did I capture the spirit of the iconic movie look?
